Case One: Asthma

Like the ten-year-old boy who had been ill since he received an MMR vaccination when he was three. He developed measles as a result of the injection - this was confirmed by his GP, who suspected there had been live measles in the vaccination. He recovered but he was left with asthma as a consequence of the measles, so he always had an inhaler in his pocket.

He loved sport and exercise, and it was his dream to run in a marathon.

He used to run up and down his road at home, from the lamp-post to the garage door, struggling to build up his stamina and speed.

But the asthma got the better of him every time. He would give up and go home, pale-faced, wheezing, and disappointed in himself, frustrated that his body wouldn't let him do what he wanted to.

By the time his mother brought him to see me, he was angry about his asthma. He hated the need for an inhaler, and he thought he would never run in a marathon. He told me the asthma was always much worse on cold, dry, windy days.

This boy received three remedies. He got MMR vaccination made up into a homeopathic remedy, since it had been the original cause of his illness. He got a remedy called Aconite, because I have often found it useful for wheeziness and tightness of breath which is much worse when it is cold, dry and windy.

Lastly, I worked out his constitutional remedy to be Calc-Carb.

This boy did not need to see me again. His mother called to tell me that his Consultant had assessed him and given him permission to use his inhaler only as needed, instead of the prescribed regular daily doses. He no longer carried his inhaler in his school blazer pocket - he took his Aconite with him instead.

He was achieving his self-imposed targets for running from lamp-post to garage, even though Mum was scared watching him that he would stagger home in his old bad condition - she couldn't believe that he was coming in rosy-cheeked, exhilarated, ready for food - and looking forward to running in the marathon after all.
